What is KeepSolid VPN Unlimited?
Based in Ukraine, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is a virtual private network (VPN) service with a stated strong focus on privacy and freedom of information. However, it’s worth noting that the company keeps some records of connected devices and data consumption.

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited – Features and usability
The latest version of KeepSolid’s Windows client provides a streamlined connection screen with a button to select your desired endpoint. A map displays endpoint locations and the geographic route between your physical and virtual location.
Hit the endpoint selection button and, by default, you’re shown your favourites list. This is initially populated solely by the default optimal server selection option, followed by a list of all endpoint countries, then specialist endpoints for torrenting and region-shifting for streaming video services such as Netflix U.S. and BBC iPlayer. You can also select and connect to a server from the notification area icon right-click menu.
KeepSolid’s other settings allow you to switch from the Windows client’s default IKEv2 connection protocol to OpenVPN or KeepSolid’s – somewhat slower – Wise protocol, which the firm says offers “ultimate protection.” There’s also a kill switch to cut off all traffic in case the VPN goes down, a run-on startup setting and a Trusted Networks whitelist to which you can add specific Wi-Fi networks.
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited – Performance
Endpoints/VPN | UK | Netherlands | United States |
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited HTTP | 133.12Mbps | 117.04Mbps | 115.92Mbps |
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited FTP | 96.41Mbps | 136.24Mbps | 127.06Mbps |
KeepSolid has endpoints in 54 countries, including specialised servers designed to allow you to watch streaming video services undetected. We were able to use its US streaming endpoint to catch up with Netflix’s latest shows and view iPlayer content over a similar UK endpoint. Shudder in the US worked as usual, but we weren’t able to access All 4 in the UK or get past Crunchyroll’s recently upgraded anti-VPN measures.
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited’s performance returned to the high speeds we usually expect, after a UK speed test slump in August. UK endpoints gave us HTTP throughput of 133.12Mbps (16.64MB/s) – among this month’s fastest results, with more modest FTP download speeds of 12MB/s. Its Netherlands servers consistently gave us speeds of 117.04Mbps (14.63MB/s) over HTTP and 17MB/s via FTP, while its US endpoints posted an extremely quick 115.92Mbps (14.49MB/s) via HTTP and 15.9MB/s via FTP.

Should I buy KeepSolid VPN Unlimited?
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited has some great value subscription offers, with a £81 three-year, five-device deal that works out at £2.25 per month and, if you’re really taken by the company’s service and don’t want to worry about shopping around for a VPN in the foreseeable future, a £162 lifetime subscription.
If you’re after an annual subscription, its price is at the cheaper end of average, at £48.60, while its monthly price of £8.09 is rather expensive. The company allows anonymous payment using Bitcoin.
The latest version of its privacy policy says that, although it collects a lot of connection information, including your IP address, device information, time zone and more, your IP address is not stored after your connection is terminated.
KeepSolid stands out for its combination of generally fast performance, wide range of clients and set-up instructions for various devices and operating systems, including routers.
Verdict
With a recently upgraded interface that includes a kill switch, there’s little to complain about when it comes to KeepSolid VPN Unlimited’s features, which will please most advanced users.
KeepSolid VPN Unlimited’s cost-effective three-year, five-device subscription is particularly appealing. However, KeepSolid’s privacy policy hasn’t been put to the test, so if security is paramount we recommend Private Internet Access or ExpressVPN, both of which have been shown not to keep logs as a result of government action, while NordVPN and VyprVPN have both been independently audited.
